Mr Daryl Ng, SBS, JP, is Chairman of the Hong Kong Innovation Foundation (HKIF), Director of Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation as well as Deputy Chairman of Sino Group.
He is a steadfast advocate of good causes for the betterment of the community. He actively participates in community services, green initiatives, heritage conservation, as well as arts and cultural events to build a better community.
Through providing a holistic innovation ecosystem, the HKIF seeks to build a better community together by collaborating with industry players, innovators, the academia and like-minded partners. Taking a holistic approach to innovation and technology, the HKIF serves diverse sectors from young pupils to entrepreneurs to support Hong Kong’s growth into an international innovation and technology hub.
Mr Ng encourages collaboration with partners and the academia on social innovation solutions to innovate for future generations. Under his leadership, innovations such as wind turbines, in-building hydropower systems have been installed in Sino Group projects like Park Metropolitan and The Avenue, with plans for new projects like Grand Central.
Mr Ng is keen to support the young generations. Go Code project, initiated by Mr Ng in 2014, is a meaningful undertaking that provides complimentary coding classes for students from underserved families to equip them with this essential skill. The programme has been well received, with the number of enrolment increased from some 20 students in the first year to over 2,500 in 2019.
In 2008, the Ng Family set up the Hong Kong Heritage Conservation Foundation (HKHCF) to revitalise and maintain heritage buildings, and promote the conservation and appreciation of heritage and historical places. Tai O Heritage Hotel, converted from the Old Tai O Police Station, a Grade II historic building, through Batch I of the Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme of the Development Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR Special Administrative Region, was opened in March 2012.
Mr Ng strongly believes in engaging the community in heritage conservation and ensuring its sustainable development. The heritage building is not just a hotel, but a destination for locals and tourists to experience the unique culture of Tai O.
In addition to chairing various corporate social responsibility committees of the Group, since 2013, he has been serving on the Spirit of Hong Kong Awards judging panel, an award dedicated to recognising Hong Kong’s unsung heroes who have made a positive impact on others.
In addition to the HKIF and Sino Group, Mr Ng is a Non-Executive Director of The Bank of East Asia, Limited, which is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the Chairman of Yeo Hiap Seng Limited, a company listed on the main board of the Singapore Stock Exchange. He is a member of the Global Leadership Council of Columbia University in the City of New York, a member of the 10th Sichuan Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (“CPPCC”), a member of the 12th and 13th Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPPCC, a member of the 10th and 11th Committees of the All-China Youth Federation and the Deputy Chairman of the Chongqing Youth Federation. He is the Vice Chairman of Hong Kong United Youth Association, a Council Member of the Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF, a Director of The Community Chest of Hong Kong, a member of the Board of Mind HK, a Council Member of The Hong Kong Management Association, a Council Member of Hong Kong Chronicles Institute Limited and a Director of The Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong. Mr. Ng’s major public service appointments include being a co-opted member of the Community Care Fund Task Force of Commission on Poverty of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (“HKSAR”), a member of the Estate Agents Authority of HKSAR, a member of the Cyberport Advisory Panel, Advisor of the Our Hong Kong Foundation, a member of Hong Kong Trade Development Council Mainland Business Advisory Committee, a member of the Council of the University of Hong Kong, a member of NUS Medicine International Council at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine of National University of Singapore, a member of International Advisory Council of Singapore Management University, a member of the Board of M Plus Museum Limited and a Board Member of National Heritage Board, Singapore.
Mr Ng holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and a Master of Science Degree in Real Estate Development from Columbia University in New York, and an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Savannah College of Art and Design. He is also an Honorary Fellow of the Open University of Hong Kong.
